Subjects mentioned include the raid on Harper's Ferry, farming in Ohio, sheep raising, tanning, phrenology, and spiritualism. Many of the letters are addressed to Brown's wife, Wealthy C. Hotchkiss. A letter book of the firm Perkins & Brown, wool dealers of Springfield, Mass., contains 632 letters of John Brown Sr.
